SUBVERT is a collaborative photo and video project between Kate Russell and Laura Stokes based on Stokes’ show, CALL ME A PUSSY. Laura Stokes uses circus, burlesque and performance to illuminate current (and timeless) issues. The photos of SUBVERT are an extension on the themes, characters and issues in the staged show. The work is created collaboratively between performer and photographer and allows both artists to utilize each other’s skill and artistic mediums to further illustrate the absurdity of capitalism, power structures and the simple act of being a woman in today’s world.
