On Assignment

I’m doing that thing I do when the light goes away and the days get short … looking back at the assignments, projects and people that filled the last year, updating the website, looking ahead.

One body of work that sometimes slips between the categories on a website is the assignment work I do for magazines and the press. The stories vary, sometimes I’m skiing the highest peaks with 2 cameras instead of poles, or I’m showcasing architecture and building projects, or meeting Curanderos (traditional healers) around the state of New Mexico, or exploring a quite town, or connecting with artists and finding out more about their work and worlds.

This is usually the best work to do, following the leads an editor or writer will offer, meeting new people, seeing new places and old, staying open to whatever the story and subject bring, staying in the moment and then finding ways to share what that is through the lens.

Here is a glimpse of some of the assignment work I’ve gotten to do over the last year or so with The Alta Journal, New Mexico Magazine, The New York Times, Santa Fe Magazine, and Trend Magazine. Thank you editors and publishers for sending me out in the world.
